• This advanced paediatric life support programme is for those from a medical,
nursing, ECP, ACP, ODP, RTO background for which APLS is relevant to their working

Candidate criteria and eligibility
• This Advanced Paediatric Life Support recertification programme is for those candidates who have already undertaken the APLS course and after four years wish to recertify.
• Candidates have six months after their APLS certificate has expired to do this APLS Recertification course
• Those whose certificates have expired more than six months must undertake the full APLS course.
• All recertifying candidates must read the manual and complete the APLS e-modules.
• ALSG offer an amnesty for candidates who fulfil certain criteria: practicing APLS regularly and working in the following roles - on-call general paediatrics; paediatric intensive care; paediatric anaesthesia; general or paediatric emergency department.

Generic Instructor Course
The Generic Instructor Course trains future Instructors in the principles of adult learning. These skills can then be used to teach fellow healthcare professionals at a number of our courses, including ALS, EPALS and NLS.
This course is a joint collaboration between Resuscitation Council UK and the Advanced Life Support Group (ALSG).
The GIC is not open to applications in the same way our other courses are.
Instead, our future Instructors are found when they’re candidates on our courses. Our Course Directors and Faculty identify Candidates who they feel would make excellent Instructors and recommend them as having Instructor potential (IP). Those Candidates then receive an email inviting them to book a place on a GIC course.
The GIC teaches the knowledge and skills required to:
The GIC must be taken within four years of the date of the provider course.
This course consists of a day of e-learning followed by two days of face-to-face attendance, which will take place in a Resuscitation Council UK Course Centre.
All of our Course Centres are approved and certified by Resuscitation Council UK and ALSG. Courses are run by dedicated and qualified Instructors, guaranteeing that our courses are uniform and the content remains the same across our Course Centres.
Pre course preparation:
When Candidates are enrolled on a course, they will gain access to the GIC VLE [link to]. Before the course, Candidates will need to complete the e-learning modules before attending the two-day face-to-face course. The Course Centre will also provide teaching assignments, which Candidates will need to prepare ahead of the face-to-face element of the course Candidates will receive a copy of the Pocket Guide to Teaching for Clinical Instructors, as well as teaching materials and assessment forms at least four weeks prior to the course, which they must read in preparation for the course. They should use the materials to prepare for their allocated teaching sessions that will take place during the course.
Programme:
Across the two day face-to-face sessions, Candidates will attend a lecture before taking part in practical sessions that cover the teaching modalities required to teach the provider courses. These include approaches to teaching skills acquisition, facilitating simulation, undertaking assessments and providing feedback to candidates.
After successful completion of the GIC, Candidates must teach on two provider courses as an Instructor Candidate (IC) within two years of the GIC in order to complete their training and receive their qualification.
Assessment and certification:
Continuous assessment occurs throughout the GIC, and Candidates receive constructive feedback during the course from the faculty.
A full Instructor certificate is awarded after successful completion of a GIC and after teaching on two provider courses as an Instructor Candidate. Certified Instructors will also receive complementary Associate Membership [link to membership page] of Resuscitation Council UK, which provides a variety of benefits.
This course is recognised as continuing professional development (CPD) by the Medical, Dental and Nursing Royal Colleges and Health Care Professional Council. Please contact your registering body for further information.

General information
e-ILS was launched in 2019 and uses the same core curriculum as ILS, which was launched in 2002 and is Resuscitation Council UK’s most attended course. ILS certification is recognised across the UK, the EU and Australia.
During the course, you will develop the skills to:
· recognise and treat the deteriorating patient using the ABCDE approach;
· identify the causes and promote the prevention of cardiopulmonary arrest;
· undertake the skills of quality CPR and defibrillation (manual and /or AED) and simple airway manoeuvres;
· utilise non-technical skills to facilitate team leadership and effective team membership.
Who is the course for?
The ILS course is suitable for doctors, medical students, nurses, nursing students, midwives, paramedics and student paramedics, physiotherapists, dentistry professionals and other health and care professionals. It may also be suitable for fire service technicians, police personnel and prison officers.
Course Structure and programme
This course will take place in our SMaRT academy, Office 1, Kingston Court, Walsall Road, Cannock, Staffordshire, WS11 0HQ. The course runs from 0800-1230hrs.
Full day and e-ILScourses are available.
The e-ILS course combines half a day of e-learning with half a day of face-to-face learning. Candidates are free to complete the e-learning in their own time before the face-to-face session. The face-to-face session focusses on skill stations and cardiac arrest simulations (CASTeach).
Pre-course preparation:
Candidates receive their ILS manual two weeks before the start of the course. They will also be given access to the e-ILS web app. Candidates are expected to have prepared for the course by reading the manual and completing modules on the e-ILS web app. There will also be a pre-course multiple-choice question (MCQ) paper to support Candidate learning.
Assessment and certification:
Assessment is continuous throughout the course and is guided by the assessment forms provided for each core skill. You will receive copies of the assessment forms in an email prior to the course.
Successful Candidates receive a Resuscitation Council UK ILS provider certificate, which is valid for one year.

Resuscitation Council UK (RCUK) Immediate Life Support / paediatric Immediate Life Support Instructor Course
The ILS/pILS instructor course is not open to applications in the same way other courses are. Instead, future Instructors are found when they’re Candidates on an ILS or pILS course.
Course Directors and Faculty identify Candidates who they feel would make excellent Instructors and recommend them as having Instructor potential (IP).
Those Candidates then receive an email or letter inviting them to book a place on an ILSi course.
Please ensure that a copy of this is sent to us with your application form.
This means that unless you have been a candidate on an ILS or pILS course, been recommended as having instructor potential and received an email from RCUK you are not eligible to apply for this course.

Continuous assessment occurs throughout the ILSi/pILSi course. Upon successful completion of the course, Candidates will receive a Resuscitation Council UK ILS or pILS Instructor certificate.
Certified Instructors will also receive complementary Associate Membership of Resuscitation Council UK, which provides a variety of benefits.
Newly qualified (IC) Instructors will be supported and assessed on the first two courses they teach, to consolidate what has been learnt on the ILSi course.

This course will take place in our SMaRT academy, Office 1, Kingston Court, Walsall Road, Cannock, Staffordshire, WS11 0HQ. The course runs from 0800-1200hrs (or occasionally from 1300-1700hrs).
The e-pILS course combines half a day of e-learning with half a day of face-to-face learning. Candidates are free to complete the e-learning in their own time before the face-to-face session. The face-to-face session focusses on skill stations, recognition and management of the deteriorating patient and cardiorespiratory arrest simulations.
Pre-course preparation:
Before the course, you will be registered on our Learning Management System (LMS). Here, you can access pre-course course modules that will prepare you for your face-to-face session, and you will be asked to complete a pre-course multiple choice question (MCQ) paper.
