APLS  recertification  is a the one day recertification course for those who have  successfully completed APLS  4 years ago and wish to rectify.

The programme comprises approximately 8-10 hours pre-course online learning followed by a 1-day face-to-face course.  Course times for face to face element: 0845-1630

1-day face-to-face course with lectures, skills, simulations and demonstrations Lectures:

• Welcome, aims & setting the scene
• Update to 7e Skill & simulation sessions
• Serious illness simulation & skills
• Serious injury simulation & skills
• Cardiac simulation and skills including review and continual assessment

This Advanced Paediatric Life Support recertification programme is for those candidates who have already undertaken the APLS course and after four years wish to recertify.

Entry criteria:  

• Medical staff ST4 and above. 
• Senior nurses /AHPs who have successfully completed 2 APLS courses previously.

Candidates have six months after their APLS certificate has expired to do this APLS Recertification course.  

There is a recertification amnesty for those who are working in: on-call general paediatrics, paediatric intensive care, paediatric anaesthesia or in general or paediatric emergency departments.

Those whose certificates have expired more than six months must undertake the full APLS course.

All recertifying candidates must read the manual and complete the APLS e-modules.

ALSG offer an amnesty for candidates who fulfil certain criteria: practicing APLS regularly and working in the following roles - on-call general paediatrics; paediatric intensive care; paediatric anaesthesia; general or paediatric emergency department.

The pre-course learning is divided into three sections, each containing a series of topics and assessments which should be studied in order:

• Recognition and management of the seriously ill child
• Recognition and management of the seriously injured child
• Resuscitation
